John Smith

John Smith was born about 1795 in Cavan, County Cavan, Ireland. John married Elizabeth Mary Cherry.

Colour Sgt. John Smith and his wife Elizabeth, also their son Bernard and his brothers and sisters arrived in Perth Western Australia on 9 Sept 1833 on the Jane from Hobart. John was with the 21st Fusiliers (an infantry regiment of the British Army).

John died 27 Feb 1862 in Point Belches, Mill Point, Perth, W.A., buried in East Perth Cem., R.C.Section Family Grave, Perth, W.A.  Elizabeth died 22 Sep 1867 in Perth, W.A., buried in East Perth Cem., R.C.Section Family Grave, Perth, W.A. Their graves are one of the few left in the RC Section of the old Pioneers Cemetery.

* A descendent of Michael Smith is John Matthew Desmond b. Subiaco 09/12/1918. He was captain of a RAAF Lancaster that was shot down over Germany in 1943.
