Newsletter No. 16: September 2002
- Betty & John Lyell
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on the 16/8/2002, quite an
effort eh? Congratulations to them both.
- The Bellmans are
well into their Australian adventure and many of us have been receiving
long and interesting e mails of the trip, unfortunately they are too
long to put in the newsletter but I will list the places that they have
visited.
- Starting from Broken
Hill, Silverton, over the Flinders Ranges, Quorn, Warren Gorge,
Hawker, Wilipena Pound in the Aroona Valley, Arkaroola, Marree on
the Oonnadatta track, William Creek, Coober Pedy, Maria and the
Curtin Springs, Uluru, Kata Tjuta (the Olgas), Kings Canyon, Alice
Springs incorporating the Macdonald Ranges and then Tennant Creek,
Ellery Creek Big Hole, Glen Helen Gorge, Ormiston Gorge, Devils
Marbles, Mataranka thermal springs, Katherine, Nitmulik National
Park, Copperfield Dam. Litchfield National Park, Darwin. They have
been everywhere man. Last report they have reached Port Douglas.
- Ian Lyell has opened
an upmarket garden boutique and garden nursery "Ian Lyell &
Associates Pty Ltd" at 356/360 Punt Road South Yarra selling imported
ornaments and exotic plants, he also arranges landscaping and I am sure
that a family discount would apply on purchases, more information can
be found on his web site www.ianlyell.com.au.
- Lorraine Wood what
can I say, no one has told her she is 71 yet. Her energetic feats during
her yearly family trip make me feel tired just typing them.
- Firstly she clocked
up over 120Km on her bike during her trip cycling with some of her
fit children at times and by herself as well.
- Bernadette &
Keith gave her a "surprise" an outing which took in
walking over the Sydney Harbour Bridge which has 1400 steps over
1.8 km climb which reaches 75 meters above the traffic, a breathalyser
was supplied.
- On return home no
resting she took off to the Southern Grampians where 2 hard hikes
were done. First one was "The Fortress Hike" which was
9km return with a 400 meters climb and took 4.1/2 hours. Next hike
was 'The Chimney Pots" a short 4 km hike with 400meters climb
over 2 1/2 hours.
- Of course playing
competitive tennis in between to keep in shape, WHEW.
- A number of photos of
Rob Wood & Clare's trip through Vietnam are displayed in
their section of Woodchips.
- John Collins
will celebrate his BIG 50 birthday in October.
- Andrew Collins
suffered a bad head injury while playing for the "Hammerheads"
and it will probably end his football career as the injury was similar
to that which James Hird had. To make things worse it was caused by
a player attacking him off the play, this player has been charged with
assault.
- Rob Wood has surprised
us by resigning from the N.T. Institute of Sport, and has gone back
to full time study in Graphic Arts but will do part time work as much
as he can at the Institute.
- Renae Turner is
back working at Channel 9 in the news department, look for her credits
on Sunday nights.

Monthly Joke:
A three year old walked
up to a pregnant lady while waiting with his mother in the doctor's
office......
He asked the lady, "Why is your tummy so big?"
She smiled and replied "I'm having a baby."
With big eyes, he asked, "Is this baby in your tummy?"
She answered, "He sure is"
Then the little boy, with a puzzled look, asked "Is it a good baby?"
She said, "Oh, Yes it's a real good baby."
With an even more surprised and shocked look, he asked, "Then why
did you eat him?"
