Norman was born in 1845 in Scotland (marriage certificate has birthplace Clist?, Scotland).

He came to Australia with his parents and siblings in 24 Feb 1853 on the ship "Prescilla".

Norman married Catherine (Kate) Morrison in 1883. Catherine's father was involved in the building of the Yan Yean reservoir. So was Norman. Norman also worked as a Herdsman.

Kate Morrison was born in Arthurs Creek. They were married by a Prespeterian Minister at her father's house in Yan Yean on January 18 1883. Norman was 38, Kate 21.

In 1903, the Victorian Electorial Roll lists Norman and Catherine as living in Yan Yean. Norman was listed as a farmer, Catherine as home duties.

Norman apparently planted heather, in memory of his Scottish heritage, along the fenceline of the road to the commons near the Yan Yean reservoir. It is still there today.

Norman died on the 7th of March 1908 in Yan Yean, and is buried at the Arthurs Creek cemetery. His wife Catherine is also buried in the same plot. The cause of death is listed on his birth certificate as 'Atheroma of the blood vessels connected with the brain'.
